BCD TRAIN DISTRICT DISABILITY HUMAN RIGHTS OFFICERS

Botswana Council for the Disabled recently had a 2-day training for its District Disability focal persons. The focal persons are based in the 10 districts where BCD is implementing a project funded by the United Nations Democracy Fund called “Promotion of Human Rights and Access to Justice for People with Disabilities”. The project is implemented in the following districts: Letlhakeng, Kweneng (Molepolole), Gaborone, Lobatse, Goodhope, Tsabong, Hukuntsi, Charleshill, Gumare and Serowe.

The District Human Rights Officers will work as community liaison officers, mobilizing communities and creating awareness of Rights for Persons with Disabilities. They will work closely with village leadership and advocate for disability mainstreaming and inclusion of persons with Disabilities in development planning at the district level.

Human Rights focal persons were trained on the Disability policy framework, covering the United Nations Convention on Rights for Persons with Disabilities, Revised National Disability Policy of 2021, Persons with Disabilities Act of 2024, Children’s Act, and how public service provision is structured at the district level. For disability-related issues, collaborations, and partnerships in the said districts, feel free to contact the focal persons on the following numbers.
