PROMOTING HUMAN RIGHTS AND ACCESS TO JUSTICE FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES IN BOTSWANA.

This past week, the Botswana Council for the Disabled (BCD) successfully hosted a series of impactful events in Lobatse, aimed at bringing together stakeholders and the community under the project titled Promoting Human Rights and Access to Justice for People with Disabilities in Botswana.
Event Highlights:
On 02 June 2025, the week commenced with discussions at the Lobatse Brigade focused on ensuring that persons with disabilities have access to educational services offered by the school.
This was followed by a Karate Academy Meeting on the same day, aimed at promoting physical activity and encouraging participation in karate sports among individuals with disabilities.
On 03 June 2025, BCD collaborated with the Department of Road Transport Services (DRTS) to discuss legal frameworks, including the Persons with Disabilities Act of 2024, which addresses accessibility issues for persons with disabilities.
Another significant event was the Bothakga Primary School Legal Framework and MOU Meeting, where discussions centered on enhancing access to educational services for Persons with Disabilities in the Lobatse area.
On 04 June 2025, a Kgotla Meeting was held to engage the community in discussions about local issues and solutions regarding the rights and access of people with disabilities.
Capturing Success Stories- In addition to these events, BCD recorded video interviews showcasing the success stories of individuals with disabilities and stakeholders involved in the project. These testimonials highlight the positive impact of initiatives aimed at promoting inclusivity.
Community Support- To conclude this impactful week, BCD donated snacks to the Special Needs Department at Bothakga Primary School, reinforcing the commitment to supporting the local community.
