TAWU AND BCD SIGN MoU TO ADVANCE INCLUSION AND LABOUR EMPOWERMENT

Today, the Trainers and Allied Workers Union (TAWU) and the Botswana Council for the Disabled (BCD) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in promoting inclusion, equality, and fair labour practices for persons with disabilities.
The partnership outlines key areas of collaboration, including:
1. Strengthening Knowledge and Professional Development in Labour Relations
Capacity building for BCD staff on labour law, labour relations, and advocacy.
Joint initiatives to promote disability mainstreaming, workplace adjustments, and reasonable accommodation.
Labour education sessions to prepare potential employees with disabilities on workplace expectations, ethics, and rights.
2. Collaborative Case Management System
Joint handling of cases of mutual interest for effective intervention.
Leveraging TAWU’s networks and relationships with corporate entities to advance BCD’s mandate.
3. Community Engagement, Disability Rights Campaigns, and Advocacy
Co-hosting community sensitization campaigns and advocacy initiatives for the employment and retention of persons with disabilities.
Conducting employer-targeted disability awareness training to encourage inclusive HR policies.
Participating in wellness and inclusion events to promote disability rights and access to justice.
This MoU marks a significant milestone in advancing social inclusion and strengthening collaboration between the labour movement and disability rights advocates in Botswana.
