LEGAL EDUCATION AWARENESS FOR BCD MEMBER ORGANISATIONS BY LEGAL AID BOTSWANA
Following the recent signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Botswana Council for the Disabled (BCD) and Legal Aid Botswana (LAB), the two institutions today held a Legal Education Awareness Workshop for BCD member organisations.
The workshop served as a vital platform to build the capacity of Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) and member NGOs on legal rights, justice processes, and available legal aid services in Botswana. By strengthening legal awareness, the initiative empowers disability organisations to better support their members in navigating legal issues, understanding their rights, and promoting equality before the law.
The session also aimed to enhance collaboration between the disability sector and legal service providers, ensuring that persons with disabilities have access to legal support that is inclusive, responsive, and sensitive to their diverse needs. Participants gained valuable insight into how the partnership between BCD and LAB will improve case referrals, community outreach, and advocacy on legal and social barriers affecting persons with disabilities.
This workshop represents an important step in advancing the goals of the BCD–LAB Memorandum of Understanding — fostering inclusion, promoting justice, and ensuring that no one is left behind in Botswana’s legal and social systems.
