Advancing Disability Rights in Gumare: Workshop and Kgotla Meeting Successfully Held

This past week, the Botswana Council for the Disabled (BCD) continued its mission to promote human rights and access to justice for people with disabilities—this time in Gumare. As part of our national campaign covering 10 districts, Gumare marks a major milestone in our journey toward inclusion and equality.
We successfully hosted a two-day Human Rights Stakeholders Workshop followed by a community-focused Kgotla meeting. These events brought together government representatives, civil society organizations, traditional leaders, and community members to openly discuss the barriers faced by people with disabilities and how we can overcome them—together.
The workshop provided a space for stakeholders to collaborate on practical strategies to improve access to education, healthcare, employment, and legal support for people with disabilities.
The Kgotla meeting gave local residents the opportunity to voice their experiences and be heard in a culturally respected setting, reinforcing the importance of inclusive dialogue and community-driven change.
We thank everyone in Gumare who participated, supported, and helped make these events a success. The conversations sparked here are just the beginning—our work continues, and we remain committed to building a more inclusive Botswana where no one is left behind.
